Question
hello, i have a loving 1 year and 4 month old Male Pomeranian, he is the most friendly and loving dog... but only to people! he's very shy when it comes to other dogs, he'll growl.. put his tail down, he'll bark at other dogs, and if you bring one near him he'll try to hide or try to make me pick him up. This week i'm bringing home a 9 week old Pomeranian Girl, i don't know how to introduce my older pom to her... i'm afraid he's going to hate her. Please give me some advice to help me make the situation easier. also i don't know if this is a bad thing but i'm a full time mommy to my dog i'm home with him 24/7 so i play with him take him for walks and take him everywhere i go... i don't know how he's going to deal with the new girl in the picture.

Answer
Hi Kasha

That's typical behavior of the smaller breeds.  It's a defensive mechanism.

You need to introduce the pup on "neutral" ground. And have your male "find" the pup.   Also, it's a good idea to slow down on the pampering and 24/7 attention before the new pup comes.  You male is going to go from having all your undivided attention to sharing overnight.  This is going to cause some jealousy.

Good luck.
