My Beagle is pregnant

My beagle is pregnant. She is four years old. The problem is I also have another beagle, also a female, that is kept in the same cage as her. I've heard that if I keep the other dog in the same cage the mother will fight with her. Do I absolutely have to separate them?

There is a good chance that the mother will do whatever she feels necessary to protect her litter, including killing another female that gets to close to her pups.

Yes I would certainly separate them before the pups come until after they go.
