Question
Hi our bulldog Annie gave birth to 3 pups unfortunately 1 was oversized and died shortly after birth. Annie never seemed to pick up and her temperature kept rising it turned out she had auto immune haemolytic anaemia, is this a known reaction?  Also due to this problem we are having to feed the 2 pups girl and boy. They are 8 days old and have been on the bottle every 2 hours for 4 days he as doubled his weight but she is only putting about an ounce every 2 days, is there anything else we could give her and should we be worried about her weight?  Thankyou

Answer
Hi Tracey. From what I understand, it is thought to have a genetic base, and is brought out by a trigger, such as getting shots, whelping, ect. It is not common. As for your female puppy, what type of formula do you have them on? It seems that she should be putting on more weight. I would strongly suggest talking to your vet about this and see if something is going on with this puppy. It may be something small, or she may just be growing at her own rate, even if it makes her smaller than her brother. I'd have her checked out to rule any problems out first. Once you do that, then your vet may be able to suggest something to help with her weight. Good luck!
