QuestionI have a female lab who is almost 3, this would be her first live litter, and if i got my dates right she is due Sept 13th. I have been taking her temp. twice a day, she has no milk coming out of her nipples yet but her temp. had been about 99.6 for the past 3 days is this normal? She was bitten by a copperhead snake on Sunday Aug 26th, could this have something to do with it?
AnswerYou still have about a week left. Most females don't get their milk in until right before or right after delivery. About the temp, it's normal for the temp to be a little bit low a week before whelping for some dogs. If you take her temp in the evening, it's likely to be higher then in the morning. That's why it's recommended to take the temp twice a day. It's the sharp decrease that you have to watch for. As for her being bitten by the snake, I honestly don't know how that will affect things for your dog. I'm sure you took her to the vet. Did she do an x-ray? And are the puppies moving around and such?
