in-breeding?

Question
Our female doxie was in heat a few weeks ago and we think perhaps she may have bred with our male doxie who is her son.  We are totally freaked out!  We kept them seperated during her heat, but they managed some "alone time" once.  She is acting weird....sleeping alot and eating alot.  Is this an absolute horrible thing?  We are very disturbed! If she would happen to be pregnant....what would you suggest?  There is no in-breeding in the background.
Thank you!

Answer
As I'm sure you know you have one of two choices, spay her and abort the litter or allow her to complete her pregnancy and hope for the best.
Many breeders selectively and carefully inbreed or linebreed to inprove their bloodlines. This is done with all testing in order and a complete knowledge of the history of the dogs. While you are doubling up on every bad gene in your dogs gene pool you are also doubling up on every good one. How do you know there is no inbreeding in your dogs pedigree? Remember that genetically your dog can reach back beyond the fifth generation to pull both good and bad to the forefront and produce it.
Make sure that your puppy buyers are aware of the inbreeding and I personally would sell the pups on spay/neuter agreements only,
Good luck with your litter
