Question
our dog had puppies a week ago. I have noticed that she has had some bloody fluid leaking. Is this normal to have a little bit of bloody discharge. The discharge is not a lot and not that often. The delivered 10 healthy puppies and her placenta.

Answer
Doreen,

Vaginal discharge is a normal finding in the immediate postpartum (after birth) period. If you notice that the discharge starts to have a foul odor to it, I would suggest that you take her to the veterinarian to rule out the possibility of an infection. If she has bloody fluid that is quite normal so you should not have anything to worry about.

Good luck with your puppies!
