chihuahua puppies

I have a long haired chihuahua who gave birth to two puppies a couple of night's ago. When will it be ok for the puppies to be picked up? I have head that some breed's may kill their puppies if they are handled to early......

Hi Felicia. You need to handle the pups so that you can check their weight, make sure they don't have sores, ect. Some mom's are overprotective of their babies. If your girl is this way, then handle them when she goes outside to do her buisness. Watch her cues. If she's ok with you touching and holding the pups, then it's fine. I just wouldn't let others handle them for now. It might make her very nervous and try to move them.
