Golden Bleeding After Pregnancy

Question
Dear Ms. Allen,

My golden retriver gave birth this year on June 20. Two weeks after the birth, she experienced some irregular bleeding which we thought was due to her giving birth. 3 weeks after, every other day, I noticed some small spots of blood on the ground, but because of their insignificance, I did not pay too much attention them.

One day, during the last week of September, I found her laying on the floor with out moving. I called her to come eat and she would not move at all. I carried my very heavy golden to the kitchen, wrapped her in a warm blanket and kept her warm. She did not eat for an entire day and half. After that episode she lost a lot of her hair.

She recovered from that and went into heat. Her heat seemed to be normal. It has been a week since she has no longer been in heat and she is still bleeding abnormally.

Could you please advise me what could be wrong with my dog? I am very worried and I would appreciate your help.

Sincerely

Answer
Hi Xalia:

I can't give you a definitive diagnosis on your dog's condition but I would strongly urge you to have your vet examine her ASAP. My best guess is she may have some irregularities in her reproductive organs, which could amount to something as simple as a hormonal imbalance or as serious as cancer, as well as numerous possibilities in between these extremes. Only your vet will be able to provide the necessary answers to her problem but hopefully it's something easily treated. I wish for the very best for you both & wish I could have been of more help.
