Question
QUESTION: My Twinkie is 3 and she was with a friend's pug while she was bleeding for about a hour (I was told). Now I do not know if anything happened (I was not home)but just in case something did happen.  I have no clue what to expect, i have no clue on anything as far as what to look for. I just have no clue. What do i look for and when should i look for something?

ANSWER: Hi Tamara

So are you saying she just started bleeding, or she was bleeding after she spent time with the unsavory Pug?

First off, your female vulva should swell, this last about a week, then a week or more of bleeding AND THEN she's ready to be bred.  In total the entire process lasts about 21 days.

If you are considering allowing you female to mate there are a few things you should consider before hand.  First and foremost is the mental and physical health of your female.  Second, Pugs are notorious for rejecting their pups and having difficult whelps.  So you want to make sure you have a wonderful relationship with your vet, because you maybe spending a lot of time helping put their children through University.

Whatever you decide.  Good luck!

QUESTION: No she did not just start bleeding.  Her vulva had been swollen and then she was bleeding for like 3 days before she was with the other dog.  So that is y i was asking what do i look for.  I hope that she does not up up pregnant cause i did hear that it is a lot on her as well as on me.  But she is already a clingy baby to me.  And i do not know what i will do if i have jeopardized her.  So can it happen if she  was just left one time with this dog.  And if she what would i look for in how much time would i look for it, whatever it may be, lol....  Sorry to sound so silly and dumb about the fact.
Tamara
and thank u so much.

ANSWER: Hi Tamara

My Momma always said it only takes one time.  HOWEVER, she has to be fertile.  Ovulation occurs usually (although not always) around day 10.

What you need to do is count the days when you noticed that she started bleeding.

She may experience a false pregnancy so I would do x-rays around day 50 (after calcifications) that way you will know for certain.

Good luck.

QUESTION: Hi Joyce, it is Tamara i asked about my 3 year old dog Twinkie.  Now like i said before I do not mean to sound stupid or dumb about this but if my Twinkie is pregnant i read that they only do juststation for 2 months (est).  Is there any signs before 50 that i would know if she is pregnant or not.  Or do u have any suggestions on what i should do to get more knowledge of this.  It is a short time and she is not acting her self and i am worried and can not afford big vet bills.....
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Tamara

Answer
No stupid or dumb questions Tamara -- so not even to worry!

Any signs of pregnancy before 50 days -- okay, you may be able to feel pups, but if the pups are small, it's not always accurate (IMO).

The best thing for Twinkie is to keep her maintained on a good quality dog food (not puppy until after the pups are born).  Keep her exercised and happy.  And above all else, stay calm. I'm a click away and can help with any questions.
