getting my bitch checked out

Question
I have a very expensive Bichon Frise with lots of champion bloodlines that I plan on breeding. I know that just because both her and my male came from a long line of champions doesn't mean they won't have problems. Question is, how do I get my bith (and possibly my male?) checked out for any health (hips and eyes) problems? I'm new to the breeding world, but I really want to do everything right and produce good quality pups...

Answer
Hi Julie! I'm glad to have that you want to start things off on the right foot. I know that it seems like a lot of aggravation and money, but it's worth it. You'll be protecting yourself, your dogs, your puppies, and your puppy buyers. You need to talk to your vet. He's the one that either can do the tests himself, or know where you can have it done. If you live in a good sized city, you shouldn't have any trouble. It may be a bit harder to find someone to perform the tests if you live in a more rural area. It can be done, just don't give up! If you have a local dog club around you, you may be able to contact them for this as well. Good luck!
