4 Month Old Yorkie

Question
Hi! Yesterday, we purchased a 4month old Yorkie at a local pet store. The puppy doesn't play with its toys and romp around and play(only when it sees another dog). It just follows us everywhere and wags its tail when it sees my rabbits. And doesn't bark. Are all these normal?

I also noticed that the dog has only three baby teeth! The lady didn't tell us anything about that at the store so last night we fed it the hard kibbles and noticed that the dog kept choking. This morning I actually saw that the dog just swallowed the food! So I moistened or soaked it with water till it's extremely soft. Then he swallowed it. Should I just soak its food everyday until it starts to grow teeth? Or should I mix some canned puppy food as well?

How many times are puppies suppose to be fed? And how often? I feed my puppy little bit less than a cup in the mornings (7:00), at 1:00 in the afternoon, and 6:00 in the evening.

Answer
Puppy mills supply pet stores with pups.  You can't know what their lines are or health issues. Also, you don't know if the pups were socialized to any degree.

At 4 month old your dog should have a nice set of teeth.  I would question why he only has three.  He should be eating solid kibble. If he's eating everything that's great.  When he's 6 - 8 months you can cut his intact down to twice a day.

Good luck.
