Question
My golden delivered 9 pups 1 died at birth the others are very healthy. My girl now has diarrhea seems to be getting a little better and going less. I am giving her chicken and rice mixed with her food.  SHe has had a few accidents in the house during the night and I we have noticed that there is blood with it. THis morning there seemed to be alot of blood. When she walks around though its only a few drips. She is happy and acting very normal. I wasnt sure if there should be a concern if I should take her to the vet.  THe pups were just born 11/12 until wee hours of the morning.

Answer
Hi Lisa

Diarrhea after whelping is common.  Add canned pumpkin (NOT PUMPKIN PIE FILLING) to her diet.  You can give her a couple of tablespoons a day.  It's just a root vegetable so it won't bind her up, but it will tighten her up.

Remember she is cleaning those pups and ingesting their waste, make sure she's getting plenty of water and can be let out more often.

Also did she expel all the placenta's and afterbirth?  The afterbirth looks like a big blackish clot, if she hasn't, that could explain the bleeding.  The vet will need to give her a shot of oxytocin to ensure she's all cleaned out.

Good luck
