caring for Wild Mother dog with litter of pups

Question
Hi,
I have been feeding and caring for 2 dogs in the wild for 14 months who fear humans. The female had a little of 8 puppies and it appears the Mothers breast are too large, just an inch from dragging the ground and very discolored. I can't touch this dog, so I can't tell if the breast hard hard or not. I have the puppies eating some solid food besides breast feeding, that is if they are getting any milk out of her at all.  I can only have contact with the other dog and the puppies. There is no way to catch her to take her to the vet. I have looked for information on this online, but haven't found anything. I'm just concerned the mother dog is sick and going to die.

Answer
Hi Daniel

How old are the pups?

It sounds like the dam is developing mastitis. Which can be fatal for both the dam and the pups.  You need to get some penicillin or amoxicillin into her.  You can do that by putting it into food and leaving it out for her.

Good luck
