Question
Hi there, i have a 2 1/2 year old great pyrenees who was bred in july. she tied once a day for 6 days beginning on the 22nd, which should put her due date around the 23rd. several times i thought for sure she was in pre labor, had all the symptoms, nesting, aggressiveness to other dogs, panting, not eating...and then she resumes eating and acts normal again a few hours later. she is incredibly needy and whiney to me and im trying to figure out if maybe she isnt actually pregnant and its a false pregnancy? shes never had this problem before and her vulva is swollen and she is sleeping way more than usual. our vet in town doesnt have an ultrasound or xray to check her for us and dont seem to be much help. is there a chance she didnt catch until the last day of mating and i still have a couple days to wait it out?

Answer
the chance of a false pregnancy after 6 ties is pretty low. i would assume she is pregnant. just go from last mating and dont let her go over 65 days from that date. my female seemed to be in prelabor for about 6 days and then on the 7th day we were blessed with 11 healthy pups. she might be carrying a larger litter so she would be pretty irratable towards other dogs early and be very tired. no cause for concern unless shes having contractions for a very long time and not doing anything else. or if shes pushing for over an hour with no pup coming out. other then that i would personally wait it out. but you know her best and if you think at any time shes having problems then go ahead and take her in. i hope this helps and good luck! if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
