day 54 of pregnancy

My English Bulldog is on day 54 of her pregnancy. She is a small bully, she started out weighing 41 pounds. At 35 days we did a sonogram and the vet saw one puppy. My concern is she is gaining quite a big of weight, she is now at 53 pounds so she has gained 12 pounds and has a little over a week to go. I am worried we have a large water baby or a lot of amniotic fluid or something. My vet says I can bring her in for a check up before the cesarian but my dog hates the vet since the AI and I don't want to stress her out more. Should I take her in to be checked out or do you think I should just wait until she is ready for the cesarian. She is in great shape, eating well and still pretty active.

If you're concerned with your female and the pup, then absolutely you should take her in to the vet. That would give you some peace of mind to know what to expect.

On the flip side, at day 54 you only have over a week to go. So you're in a catch-22.   

If it was my female, I think I would wait until the day of the section.
