Question
Hi My dog a Lab mix had puppies on Sunday evening. She is still panting is this normal??She was an outside dog, but I brought her and the puppies in because I thought it was to cold outside. Could that be the problem or something else?
Thanks

Answer
Hi. I would take her to the vet to make sure she doesn't still have a puppy or placenta inside of her. If one is left in there, it can cause a serious infection, and even death. Usually, a shot of oxytocin is all that's needed to clean a dog out, and will also help with milk production. I would keep mom and pups inside, it's still pretty cool outside, especially at night. Cold is the number one killer of newborn puppies. If mom seems to get hot, let her out of the whelping box, and keep water available at all times. Good luck!
