shih tzu mucus plug

Hi i have a pregnant shih tzu that is only 54 days in and she has a discharge.  It has a clear thick consistency in it, but it is mainly a brown almost solid looking plug on her vulva.  It is odorless.  I was wondering if this is normal

Hi Reuben. Any colored discharge before the birth of the first puppy needs to be checked out. Sometimes it turns out to be nothing, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Brown worries me, as bitches with a brown discharge often has pyrometra, a serious uterine infection. Please take her to the vet and have it checked out. Please let me know how it goes.
