Question
QUESTION: I have a boxer who is in heat, we have took her to another male boxer to breed on her 7th and 10th day into her cycle.  Will they ever lock up and what is the best way to make sure it happens? Or will she be the only boxer not want to lock up, is my dog a lesbian?

ANSWER: Hi Tessa. Most breeders try on days 11 and 13, or on days 12 and 14 of the heat cycle. You may just be trying too early. Try again in a few days. What day is she on now?

QUESTION: she is on day 10, WE TRIED IT TODAY but she wouldnt take...it is loke she doesnt want it, is there something i can do to make her lock up?

Answer
I'd still give her another day or so. Forcing her won't help, and there's really nothing that you can do to make her unless you want to sedate her, or try A.I. Watch for these signs to tell if she's ready: her vulva will soften up, kind of feel like your lips. Her bleeding may lighten in color and frequency. Watch for her to flag, or move her tail to the side when you pet her rear. Some females flat refuse to be bred, and their owners usually have to use A.I. I'm telling you though, give her another day or two, and try again. You might see a huge difference in her. It's a common mistake to try to breed too early. Then you get frustrated, she gets frustrated. This is how a lot of people miss their bitches, they simply try too early. I've had females that would try her best to fight the male on day 10, and by day 12 she turned into a regular floozie.:-) Give your girl a couple of days before you worry too much.
