Heat Cycles for Standard Poodles

Question
I have a 2 year old female standard poodle that I've owned since she was born. Both her parents were/are my dogs. She's had 1 litter of puppies now. We moved to Texas from MN in July. She went through one heat cycle in Sept, and when we moved closer to the bay (we moved from dallas to galveston), she started going into heat once a month. I've raised poodles my entire life and have never had this happen. Can someone tell me if this is normal? She eats & drinks fine, is her usual playful self...she just goes in heat every month.

Answer
Hi Rebecca.  Please remember that I am not a vet, and it would be a good idea to get your Poodle in for a check-up, but it's my opinion that the change in your girl's heat cycle might be due to the move, and the drastic temperature/climate (humidity) change.

I am a transplanted Texan myself, (moved to California from Houston several years ago) and I know how hard it is to acclimate to the drastic changes in climate.  It took me at least two years to adjust.

Good luck, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have additional questions.

Sincerely,
