female in season

My female rottweiler is having discharge from her vulva that is a milky stringy red.  Is this normal?  Is she starting her heat?

It's certainly possible she's beginning her heat cycle. On average dogs have a heat cycle approximately every 5-7 months. Usually the discharge isn't stringy but this varies from dog to dog so that may just be her. I'm including a few links for your review.
