Question
Hi we have a wnderful Dalmatian dog. We are considerng studding him but have 2 questions that we cannot find an answer to. Firstly at what age would he be able to successfully breed from? Also there were 2 deaf bitches in the litter that he came from (his sisters) would that be a problem when breeding him. His hearing is fine.
Thank you for your time.
Regards
Carly

Answer
Hi Carly

Technically, a male can produce viable semen as early as 6 months. The best time to breed a male, in my opinion, is after he's reached a year old and can be tested.

Dalmatians are notorious for a host of health issues including deafness and yes there is a risk that your male will pass it on to his offspring.

Good luck
