Question
My little American pit bull got locked up with our lab and chow mix. He is about 135 lb dog and she just had the puppies 4 weeks ago. I didn't want this to happen because I don't know enough to breed these dogs but now that I'm in this predicament I need some help. I have tried finding help online but im having trouble. Where can I find a guide to raising these dogs until I can give them away and what shots I need to get them? I need to know when to start feeding them food and water and any other tips you think I should know. I would really appreciate it. PS All seven of the puppies are male and growing very fast and getting very big already!

Answer
Hi Jake

You want to socialize the pups and stimulate them immediately.  With the mixes of breeds you may have scrappers on your hands.  The biggest issue would be dog aggression as bothe the Chow and the Pit are fighting breeds.

You will need to have a vet check them out and give them their set of shots. These include cainine Distemper Adenovirus Type 2, Parvovirus vaccine. You'll also want to have them de-wormed.

At 4 weeks old they are ready to start solids.  You can feed them a good quality puppy kibble. Start by feeding them twice a day, and make sure they have access to clean, fresh water 24 hours.

Now's the time to be trimming nails and handling them as they become imprinted.

Good luck.
