When to breed?

Question
Hello! I have a female Parson Russell Terrier that I plan to breed (I think I have
research enough to get me through one litter, although I know there is no
limit to the knowledge I can have!). I was wondering in which heat cycle do I
breed Lola, my girl? I have heard from an expert on Parson Russell Terriers to
breed on second, although in my mind I keep thinking this is too early. I have
also heard the third, or the one closest to the second birthday. That sounds a
bit more appropriate to me, but I am truly clueless! Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi Astrid

It really depends on the female.  You have to take each one on an individual basis.

As long as the female is over a year.  If her second heat fell when she was 10 or 11 months, I would wait until the next one.

You are the best to judge her mental and physical health.  Is she show quality or pet quality? Has she finished developing and growing? And are you BOTH prepared for puppyhood?  Keep in mind that the smaller dogs mature quicker too.

Good luck.
