Is my female prouducing enough milk for her pups?

Question
My female boxer had puppies on June 21. She is a little over a year old(13-14mo). 7 healthy pups. The pups seem a little fussy but have gotten bigger. I never got a chance to weigh them so im not sure how much bigger exactly.  I have squeezed her nipples to see if she has milk and on the fourth nipple I got a drop. Is there anything I can give her to make more milk? They dont cry all the time, and she is eating Purina puppy chow, three bowls or a little less a day but is drinking good. What should I do?

Answer
Hi Karen

Not a fan of Purina Puppy Chow.  A breeding female should be on quality food.  Raw organ meat and colostrum will also greatly assist with production.

You can try splitting the litter.  Allowing 3 to feed for an hour (the 3 smallest) then the other 4 to feed for a hour.   The pups that are out should be placed in a secure warming box.  With full bellies they'll sleep and you'll be to notice if her teats fill with milk.

Good luck.
