sensitive nipples

our son's Pekingese bitch recently had her first heat.  Unfortunately they are not sure that the male did or did not breed with her.  They eventually separated the dogs by bringing the bitch to our house until it was over.  However, they are now noticing that her nipples are extremely larger than they were and also very sensitive.  Could this be a sign that she might be pregnant?

A false pregnancy will also enlarge the nipples.  So the only way to tell if puppies are due is to do x-rays after about day 50.  

False pregnancies have all the signs and symptoms of a "regular" pregnancy, without the end result.
