Possible prgnancy problem with dachshund

Question
QUESTION: I have been breeding dachshunds for only a few years and had to learn everything I know by researching.  We have had a total of 20 puppies.  A perfect record.  We have never had a sick puppy and have never lost one.
Unfortunetly, my dachshund got pregnant for the third time in a row, but seemed to stay extremely healthy througout.
Two weeks ago, I got an ultrasound done because I have no idea of when her due date is.  The ultra sound said they would be due in apx 1 week.  Well, it has been two now.  Lucky's temperature was 99.8 on Saturday and then dropped to 99.5 on Thursday and today (Friday) she was at 98.5.  I brought her to the vet today and they took xrays.  She has three puppies (smallest litter yet) and one is possitioned bottom first.  They are not near the birthing cannal yet.  Also on Saturday, she has a very small drip of clear slime coming out.  Today, the vet said she had a spoon full.
This is the problem, the vet I trust is not who I dealt with.  This lady I dealt with said that she thinks the puppies are too large and that my dog should have a cesarean.  A few years back, I paid to have a cesarian at the price of $350, now she wants to charge me $900.  She said that if I wanted to, I could just wait until she goes into labor on her own and then address the problem.  I didn't want to make any radical decisions so I said that I would just take her home and monitor her.  When I said this, the vet said that I should make an appointment for another ultrasound on Tuesday because the puppies may be dead by then.  I specifically asked her a moment earlier if she sees an immediate risk and her answer was no.
This dog has very successfully and quickly deliever her last two litters.  One more thing, she has not become lethargic and has continued to eat well.
This whole thing concerns me greatly, but I don't really trust the vet I saw today.  My dog is 4 years old now.  And her mate is not slimmer, but a bit longer than her. Please help. I may go to another vet tomorrow and ask about indusing her labor if they think it is a good idea.

ANSWER: Hi Chelsie -- it's great that you've never encountered problems with breeding, but if you do it long enough, you will experience everything.

If she naturally birth two litters successfully, she should not have any problems with this litter. That being said, I would consider giving her time off between any future litters.  The physical (internal) heath of a female is lowered after each litter and can affect future litters.  Remember that a female is born with all the eggs she is ever going to produce.

Keep in mind that the vet saw the x-ray's and your female, and has a clearer understanding of your female. It's always good to have a trusting and confident relationship with your vet and a second opinion wouldn't hurt a thing.

Good luck.

QUESTION: Thank You so much for the information.  Interestingly, while I was at a college class today, a friend helped deliver our three puppies naturally.  I will not trust this vet for further information because I think that our puppies are smaller in this litter than they ever have been before.  I feel that she just wanted my $1,000.
I 100% believe in skipping a heat every time, but I can't seem to accomplish that.  This litter was conceived in a 60 second mistake by one of my friends.  All during Lucky's heat she was kept away from our male.
I am thinking that I should just get her fixed if I can't figure out how to keep her safe from becoming pregnant again.  I don't want to do her harm or any future puppies.  She is four years old and has had four litters already.  A total of 16 puppies.  What is your take on all this?  Luckily we feed our dogs high quality dog food and they receive gel vitamins during pregnancy and feeding of their pups so they never go through a warn out phase.

Answer
Even though she's on high quality food, puppies are like little leaches, they suck all her nutrients, calcium and all the good stuff from the mother. You have to make sure she get extra vitamins, minerals and red meat, just to build her up to what she was before she had pups.

I would either put her in a crate when she's in heat, or have a friend babysit your male for a month.
