QuestionHi,
My dog (a Chihuahua Pug cross)is supposed to be around 8 months old, I don't know her exact age, but she recently accidentally mated with a Shih Tzu that I thought was fixed. It has been about 2 weeks since it happened and I have noticed that she is sleeping a lot, all night and most of the day, has thrown up a couple of times in the morning, and has gotten very cuddly, she wants to snuggle all day. Is 8 months too young to have puppies? If so, what would a vet do about it? Is there such thing as an abortion for dogs?
AnswerHi Brianne
I'm off the opinion that 8 months is too young. A dam's body has finished developing, growing and maturing and neither has her mind. Young dogs can reject/kill their litter.
A vet can administer oxytocin to clean out a female. But you have a very good chance of having that female never conceiving again.
The flip side is, maybe the male was nuetered and your female is having a false pregnancy.
Good luck
