Question
QUESTION: Iam wondering if my female chi could possibly get pregnant if when she is in heat, she is not bleeding at all?????? Honestly,at all!!! My male has "locked" with her like 7 times now so thats wonderful, but is it going to get anywhere if she is not bleeding along with this heat?

ANSWER: Hi. Did she bleed at all during this heat? Some dogs will slow down, and even stop bleeding when the time is right to be bred. She may pick back up bleeding after this time is over. 7 times is overkill, you'll end up with too many due dates, and maybe even premature puppies. I would let them rest now.:-)

QUESTION: No, she has not bled at all this heat. And their lockings were all within 24 hours.  I have since put a "belly band" on my male so Ineed not worry anymore, but do you feel that for the most part she can get pregnant even though she doesn't bleed? I always do it right anyways and I will have the xrays done but I was just looking for your expert advice! Especially since she is only 3 lbs 5 ozs....

Answer
Ya know, this is an odd one.:-) I must have misread your first question, and I apologize. Sometimes a dog can have what's called a silent heat, you won't ever know she's even in heat unless you have a male around. Did she show any signs, like her vulva swelling? If she stood and let the male breed her, then I would think her in heat. Females won't usually allow a male to breed her unless she's in heat. So, I would consider her pregnant for the time being, just in case, until proven otherwise.
