Question
I have a 7mth yellow lab and on the 15 of april he locked up with my choclate female of 3yrs. Is he too young to have bred her or should I prepare for some pups. My female seems to have gained some weight since then. I did increase her feeding a little. And if she is bred how much should i feed her. She is about 60lbs and eats 2cups a day.

Answer
Hi Saul

A male starts producing viable semen young.  It may not be the "best stuff" but it will get the job done.

The biggest mistake most people make is overfeeding their dams or feeding puppy food.  Extra food, equals bigger puppies, which equal a harder whelp which can equal complications and c-section.

A moderate increase is okay but the key is moderation.  You want to make sure she has supplements like extra vitamins and omega's.

Good luck.
