Dog Behavior after birth

Question
hello, my dog is 11 months old and we didn't think she could have gotten pregnant with a poddle when we were right there with her. First of all my Shih-Poo just gave birth to 5 puppies 13 days ago. I don't know why she started to poop and pee in the house a couple days after giving birth. She was doing so well with potty training and now I feel so upset because my mom is getting angry at her. I know the diarrhea is normal. But I don't under stand why she continues to do her business in the house. Is it because she can't hold it, we take her outside like every 45 minutes to potty. My second question is how much does she have to eat after giving birth; my dad is giving her one and a half can of pedigree choice cuts in gravy plus a 1/4 cup of dry dog food. Is it normal for her
nipples to be swollen. Thank you so much you are a great help.

Answer
Oh goodness, babies having babies.

Was she 100% potty trained prior to her giving birth?

If you are taking her out every 45 minutes but she is still making messes in the house, then quite simply, you must take her outside more frequently.

A lot of mothers, especially first time mothers do not want to leave their puppies, so this can make them reluctant to go outside to do their business.

There's no reason to be angry with her, you put her in this situation, and she is doing the best she can.

She should not have diarrhea for two weeks after the puppy's birth. Please feed her something much better than pedigree canned food. She is feeding 5 new lives, she needs more than junk food.

Of course, her nipples are full of milk and should be very swollen. Hot or red is abnormal though, and cause for medical emergency treatment.

I hope you have learned that dogs can and will reproduce and its time to have them spayed and neutered.
