Artificial Insemination

Question
We have decided to try artificial insemination with our Huskies because the male is inexperienced and has gone 3 days with unsuccessful mating. We got a kit but when we went to collect the semen it was bloody instead of clear then cloudy like it is supposed to be. Any reason why it would be bloody or is the red liquid something else? Is it safe to inject this into the female? Or should I just take them to a vet and have it done? Thanks so much for you help!

Answer
Hello again

You don't want blood in the semen, you don't want anything mixing with the collection. But occasionally it happens.

There are a number of reason for the blood, the most common is the grip the holder has on the penis, or the bag rubbing against the penis.

You can certainly insert it into the female, it won't hurt her and it will get her use to procedure.

Good luck
