male dog wont take to female

Hi there my female is on day 8 of her heat.she stopped bleeding on day 6.I have a male staying as a stud of yesterday and the first half an hour he seemed very interesting mounting her etc but no tie.She stands for him but he just isn't interested anymore.what can i do ?

You can assist with the breeding, however if the male is experienced he may realize that day 8 is still early in a season.   Typically day 12 - 17 are prime.

When assisting you have to hold the female straddled across your lap.  Bring the male around to the business end and encourage him to mount.  When he does, hold them together until a tie takes place.

Again, if she's not ready (ovulating), the male may not be that interested.
