Question
HELLO, THIS IS MY GIRLS 2ND LITTER. SHE ONLY HAD 1 PUP IN HER FIRST LITTER. SHE ATTACK THE MALE ALWAYS.(FOR NO REASON)SHE IS ABOUT 55 DAY ALONG. SHE LOOKS MUCH BIGGER THEN THE 1ST TIME. WHAT DETERMINS THE SIZE OF THE LITTER. SHOULD I GIVE HER ANY THING EXTRA AT THIS TIME? (TO MAKE SURE THAT HER MILK DOES'T DRY UP EARLY LIKE THE 1ST TIME). SHOULD I KEEP HER AWAY FROM MY MALE? WHEN WALKING HER SHOULD I DECREASE THE TIME SHE WALKS?

Answer
Hi Kecia. From what I'm understanding from what you wrote, your girl is only 19 months old, and this is her second litter. Is that correct? Now, I'm not yelling or judging here, so please don't take it that way. Your girl is still just a pup herself, although I do know that small dogs mature earlier. The reason why she may have only had one puppy her first litter, and had problems with her milk supply may be because she was so young her first time. The female decides how big, or small, the litter is. The only thing that she should be on right now is a good quality food. After she has the pups, you can give her a tablespoon of dark beer. This sometimes helps with milk production. Also, after she has the pups, you can take her to the vet for a shot of oxytocin. This helps to make sure there's nothing left inside of her, and also helps with milk production. If she's not comfortable around your male, then I'd go ahead and keep them seperated. If she's comfortable with the walks, then I'd keep them up. Exercise is good for her, it will help her during delivery. However, if she's not that interested in walks now, then you can try short ones. If I can help with anything else, let me know.
