boxer pregnancy?

Question
My boxer was bred three times between the dates of February 25th and the 28th. We were trying to cut down on cost and didn't want to do an ultrasound. I was almost positive by her actions an mannerisms that she was pregnant but when her breeder looked at her she said for sure she was not. She has gotten a little chunky on us and has a huge appetite. She had a litter of 6 puppies a year ago so we know she can get pregnant. She has gotten a little chunky but is not showing much except for her over all thickness, Could she maybe still pregnant but with a very small litter. I was wondering if at this point it would be obvious to feel the pups?

Answer
Hi. One thing you can do that isn't too expensive is to have an x-ray done. It can be done 50 days into the pregnancy. I would go 50 days after the last breeding, before 50 days and they won't show up. This will let you know for sure if she is pregnant or not, how many to expect, and if there are any really big ones in there that could cause problems. I do x-rays, I won't do ultasounds. I would advise you to do this. If she is having a small litter, or even just one puppy, you need to know. It is possible that she may only be having one or two, and these are the guys that can cause problems. You should be able to feel them by now, but if she's having a small litter, or carrying them up high, you may not be able to.
