Question
Hi i have a 9month old male Chihuahua and a female Mini Dachsund who will be a year next month. i dont mind breeding them but i dont want to until im able to find out whether or not i am able to breed my female (if shes big enough) cause it said on her papers if shes too small i cant do it. so im trying to keep them from doing it but not only that my female has got it backwords shes trying to get at him and/or just playing. but my male is getting sexually frustrated and when he cant do it he starts whining really bad. what can i do to relieve him from that or get him to stop.

Answer
Hi Krystle. If you male Chi is much bigger than your female, then I wouldn't try that anyway. You may want to think about finding another male minnie Doxie for her if she's able to be bred. About your boy, there's nothing you really can do. I take it your girl is in heat right now. If so, there's a spray you can buy at pet stores or on line that helps to disquise the smell of a dog in heat. This may help your boy some, I've never used it so I don't know how well it works. This is part of breeding dogs, putting up with those pesky boys during heat.:-) Don't turn your back on them at all, females are just as bad as the boys in trying to get to the other dog. You may want to think about putting your boy at a trusted friend's house until your girl goes out of heat. However, there's nothing that you can do to stop this behavior in an intact male dog with a female dog in heat. You just have to wait them out. You can try to distract him when he does this behavior with a toy, food, walk. However, he'll most likely have a one track mind and things won't go back to normal until she finishes her heat cycle. Good luck.
