Male Doberman not interested

Question
Hi Renee,
I am trying to breed my two Dobermans, the girl is about 11 days in today but the Male isn't interested at all. He goes up to her licks her then walks away. They are both inexperienced, but she is playing with him and standing for him, but he isn't interested. She is quite dominant over him could this be why? How can we make him interested? He doesn't seem to know what to do?
Thanks
Mel

Answer
Hi Mel. She may just not be in the right part of her cycle to be bred yet. She may need another day or two. You may also need to use a teaser male to get your stud interested enough to want to breed. Also, he may not be sure what to do. That's where the teaser male will help as well. Make sure you put your stud up where he can't get to the female and other male, but can see what's going on. Keep the teaser male on a leash, and don't actually let them breed. This will usually get the stud going, and let him figure out what he needs to be doing. If she is dominant over him though, you may run into trouble there. If this is the case, the only thing that you can do is to either use a different male, or try A. I. Good luck!
