Question
QUESTION: So now I opened her vulva sightly and can see she still is bleeding very light blood no drops. When should she swell? I didnt rememder last time but I think she barely swelled the last is all this normal? She is a boston terrier and chewing up the conner of the stairs now.. Why is she acting weird?

ANSWER: Either you're making her crazy or she's got some pent up frustration, which happens when a female goes into heat.

To ease your mind, you may want to take her to the vet for a series of progesterone tests, that way you'll know where you are in her cycle.

QUESTION: Im going to try and make it to the vet tomorrow but Im not sure what you mean by your answer. im just scared I dont want her to have a uti and find out thats why she is bleeding... Just worried.. So are you saying that me checking her is making her bleed less because of stress? I just wanted to know if a dog can have a really short heat.. Does progesterone test show up right away?

It's what I always tell my husband, "don't borrow trouble".  It sounds like you are starting to second guess yourself with checking and rechecking.

Nature takes care of her own, and short heat cycles, split heats and silent heats are all part of the breeding process.

Progestrone test are done over the course of a few days.  The register her levels and can tell you when she is going to ovualate, or if she already has.
