dog pees on his own feet

Question
My wife and I adopted a German Short Hair a few months ago.  From his behavior and teeth condition, the vet tells us he is about 18 months old.  When he pees, he will usually squat and pee onto his front legs.  Sometimes he will lift a leg and hit only one of his legs.  We thought that he would outgrow it, but are starting to second-guess ourselves.  Is there anything we can do to keep him from hitting his feet when he pees?

Answer
Hi William

What I would suggest is place a pole in the yard and encourage him to go to the pole.  You can also buy plastic fire hydrant's at pet stores.  Give him lots of praise everytime he pees on the pole.

Males will lift their leg if they have something to lift on.

Good luck.
