False Heat

Question
Hello,
I have been breeding my toy breed of dogs for many years. I am ver attentive to them but doing it right. I don't breed them until they are 2 years old, I do many tests to make sure the dame and sire are in prefect health. I know pretty much everything about breeding but this is a stopper. She is a puppy that just wants to play all the time with her sister. My guys live inside my house so I watch them closely. My 8 month old female has shown NO signs of being in heat. I found her tied to my stud. He has shown NO interest in her what so ever. Is there such a thing as a false heat? I have never had this happen and was completely shocked to find them tied and upset because she is too young to have pups. Thank you for any useful information on this subject.

Answer
Hi Julie

A silent heat is what it's know as and can be common. She may be not be a sweller or bleeder (or the others keep her very clean).

Another consideration would be an infection, which can confuse a male to thinking that a female is in heat.

Good luck
