Pregnant Fiest.

Question
I recently brought home a fiest from a local pound. At the time she weighed about 10.5 lbs. and unbeknownst to me she was in heat. Needless to say the neighbors had other male dogs and I planned to have her spayed soon, but the cosmos had other plans. The male dog is a larger breed, a sheep dog around about 15-30 lbs. She is about 45 days pregnant and weighs almost 20 lbs. Is  there any way to tell if a C-section is necessary before she goes into labor? Cash is an issue especially if it becomes an emergency situation. If there is any alternative I would love to find out.

Answer
Hi Jessica

You can get a x-ray done (after day 50)and the vet will be able to tell you the size of the pups (head structure) to see if she will have difficulty whelping this litter.

Fiest are a very hardy breed, so you may be okay, but I would still get a second opinion.

Good luck
