Question
I had an unexpected surprise when my lab Bridgette came up pregnant. As her third unplanned pregnancy thanks to the neighbors dog digging up my fence, I had big plans to get her fixed after her puppies were born. Unfortunately her pups would not come and three days into labor the vet dropped the money bomb on me. I had no way to pay for it, so I had her uthanized. Tormented by losing my baby, I have convinced myself that the dead pups could have and would have passed if I had just left her alone. Have you ever heard of a bitch surviving a miscarriage with out treatment? Am I beating my self undeservingly?

Answer
Was it a miscarriage or a failed whelping? YOu probably won't like my answer, but I have to be totally honest when asked my opinion. I don't think you're beating yourself up for what your decision was is the right thing to do to yourself. However what you SHOULD think long and hard about is why, after the first unplanned pregnancy did you not have her spayed?? That would've been the responsible thing to do. There are many agencies that will help you with low cost spays.
If you choose to get another dog, please have him or her neutered or spayed immediately to avoid both unwanted pregnancies, this kind of nightmare that you had to go through and foisting off more unwanted puppies to take the places of, or join the ones being euthanized every day
Or better yet, adopt from your local shelter or humane society. They include spay/neuter in their very reasonable adoption fees
Good luck
