Question
Hello,
Our female husky had only one puppy in her litter and we recently placed it in a good home.  She now seems seriously depressed, moping around the house, looking for the puppy, and has diarrhea.  She has had puppies before and has never exhibited such depression when the have left.  We also own the father and their son from a previous litter.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Linsay. It seems that some females get really attached when they have only one puppy. All of their attention is focused on that lone pup. The best thing you can do is to get her mind off of it. Take her on walks, get her playing in the yard, whatever she likes to do, do lots of it. Get her mind focused on something else. Eventually, she should be ok. As for the diarrhea and other symptoms, if they don't go away soon, I'd take her to the vet for a check up just to see if something else is going on. Get her motivated, and moving, and mom should get back to her old self soon. Good luck!
