Question
Hi joyce, i have 3 wk old puppy staffs & the stud dog owners have chosen a male as their pick of the litter..They are intending to keep it along with the stud dog,{father & son}. Is this a suitable pairing & will they get along being the same sex? Also when is the most suitable time 4 the pups 2 leave mum? I'm starting weaning this weekend. yours gratefully.. Tara.. Answer
Hi Tara

We keep pups for 8 weeks before they go.  There is important socialization that goes on between 6 and 8 weeks.  They learn how to play with their litter mates and it gives Momma and opportunity to school the "out of control" ones.

I'm not sure you can control what the stud owners are going to take HOWEVER, two males in one household is never a good idea. In 25 years we've only placed 2 males in one home twice, and both times everyone was neutered.  Bringing a male pup into a home of a breeding male will work for about 3 - 6 months until the pup starts maturing sexually then look out.  The fight will be one to see who's top dog.  This is true regardless of the breed. I love the SBT and have dear friends that have raise and bred them forever. He would love to have more males but does he? Nope, one male is all he can safely handle.
