Male not acheiving tie

Question
Hi,

I have a male and female French Bulldog that I am breeding.  Both are of breeding age, and the female has had one litter prior.  It has been at least 13 days since she first started bleeding.  Although I have seen the male enter, and stay entered for about 10 seconds, they are definitely not locking.  I had read two answers on this site.  One said it isn't possible to get a pregnancy without a tie, and the other said that it is possible.  I am confused, should I be looking at trying a different male, or be excited for the upcoming litter?  I don't want to try another male if it is possible for her to be pregnant.  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Deanna:

It IS possible to achieve a pregnancy without actually having a tie occur but the odds are considerably less w/o a tie. And frankly, breeds such as yours often have natural breeding difficulties & many go the A.I. route. If your male is ejaculating into her vagina yet not actually tying with her, it will depend on the sperm quality & quantity as well as how far the sperm is able to go to hopefully reach an egg. You might try to catch some semen next time the opportunity presents itself & use the old turkey baster method as a back-up. Hope this helps!
