Question
What colors should I expect from breeding a red bulldog to a black tri color bulldog that carries the dilute gene ?

Answer
Hi Erik

Did you have the tri tested to determine that it is carrying the "dilute gene" or are you guessing or assuming?

With the bullies the new rage is the "blue gene".  Everyone is claiming to carry the blue gene or the dilute gene when in fact the only sure fire way to know is to test for it.

Because it is often misunderstood, you have to understand the difference between a gene and a allele.  A gene is merely a location on a chromosome, while allele are the coded information in the gene.  It is possible for there to be one allele but more often than not, there are a variety of alleles for any particular gene.  We often hear of gene pools and gene frequencies...such as the blue or dilute gene, when in fact the gene is merely the location where the alleles are found.   The gene (location) is generally the same from generation to generation but the alleles (coded variation found for that gene) can change from generation to generation (evolution).

That being said.  You have to know the colors for at least 3 generations on both sides of the parents.
