QuestionI have a Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix. Female around 13"tall at her back. I want to know how small can I go to breed her with? I have a friend that wants me to breed her with her teacup chihuahua that weighs 3 pounds. My Izzy weighs around 9 pounds. My dog is 2 years old and very healthy.
AnswerHello Mary:
The size of the female should be larger than that of the male when dealing with mixed breeds. This way there's less chance of the puppies being over-sized which could lead to a difficult whelping & may require a C-section for delivery. The stud you choose should have had a thorough pre-breeding health screening as well as your female to lessen the chances of any unknown issues being passed onto any offspring.
