Question
QUESTION: I have a two year old Leonberger which i intend to breed on her next season, her first season was June 06, her second oct 06, earlier than we expected it to be (as we calculated Dec 06). Her next season we thought would then be April 07 (six months later) There were a couple of days we thought she was starting to come into season but then nothing happened!!
Was her second season just early and she will go back to June 07, can they delay coming into season, is this normal as it is only her third season and she is just 2
Thank you

ANSWER: Hi Marie -- what it could indicate is a thyroid condition.

Was her first season "normal" (i.e. bleeding 7-10 days, swelling, etc.)?

QUESTION: yes first season was normal, second was longer and earlier than we expected. Also we are still in touch with her sisters and two have followed the same pattern, and are still waiting for their third season

Answer
If her littermates have the same heat cycle. It could be normal for them. Or they could be missing something in their system.

I would start her on a supplement of Omega 3-6-9,(available at Wal-mart)and some good vitamins. Also putting her on a quality kibble to help her body kick in.
