Female Pug On heat after pups

Question
Hi there I was just wondering I have a female pug that had her first litter of pups.  The pups would have been 9 weeks old this week and they have already left to go to there new homes.  I was just wondering how long it might be before she comes on heat again as I don't wish for her to get pregnant again straight away.  I want to wait till next year.  My male is trying to mount here all the time and I just noticed that she is weeing bloody urine.  Is this a problem? does this mean she is on heat again?  And if not how long till she does come on heat so I know when I have to separate her and the male?

Thanks
Megan

Answer
Hi Megan

If she goes every 6 months, she will be coming in soon.

Some people forget to count the time between the last heat, including the time she was pregnant and the time while she was nursing, and assume they should start counting after the pups go home.  WRONG.

Her horns and uterus could be just going back into position, which can cause a female to spot. The scent of blood, even if she's in pre-heat, will get the males interested.  Best to keep them separated so he doesn't injury her.

Good luck
