Question
QUESTION: Hi. I have been breeding for a few years now and all my bitch's have had self whelp and all in good time. I have a Lhasa Apso bitch, who has had a litter before self whelp. This will be her 2nd litter, but she is 69 days into her pregnancy, and is showing no signs that she may whelp soon!! What should i do? Should i call a vet or leave her be for a while? She is healthy, eating very well and is just as happy as ever!

ANSWER: Hi Adele. I would most definitely make a trip to the vet. A normal, healthy  canine pregnancy can last up to 65 days. Is there anyway that she was bred at a later date? If there's not, then take her to the vet ASAP. Good luck, and I hope that all is ok!

QUESTION: i own the stud dog of my bitch. I allowed 3 ties, each being 3 days apart. She is 69 days today if i take from the first tie (which i have always taken from the first tie with every dog i have bred, and this has always worked fine). If i take from the last tie, it would make her 63 days today.
Would the vet give her a jab, or would this be a C section?

Answer
If it's 63 days from the last breeding, then she may be just fine. I think that I would still take her in just to be on the safe side. Most people do not recommend giving a dog the shot until they've had atleast one puppy. The vet may suggest a c-section if he thinks she has uterine inertia. She still has a few days according to the last breeding date. Place a call to your vet and see what he thinks you guys should do. If I can be of anymore help, let me know! P.S. I know you said your method always worked for you, but remember, each dog is different. Each cycle is different for the same dog. She may not have ovulated until later than she normally did before. Unfortunately, these ladies do not read the books.:-)
