Question
I have a 14 month-old boxer female who decided to go into heat while we were on vacation, the caretakers did not know to separate her and my 10 yr-old male (we didn't know she was going to be in heat).  They were found 'together' twice, now are separated.  I plan on calling the vet tomorrow, but is there any advice you can give me?

Answer
If it was only 24 hours ago, you may be able to give her the mismate shot. If it's been longer than that, and you have no intentions of breeding her in the future, you may want to think about going ahead and having her spayed. If you are going to breed her in the future, then you may have to go ahead and let her whelp the puppies, if she is indeed pregnant. You just need to talk to your vet and see what he thinks. He knows her history better than I do, and may think that one way is safer for her than the other options. I know this wasn't much help, but if I can help you again in the future, please let me know.
